Common questions about how we run design work and what you receive.

Design cost follows the size of the problem rather than the number of screens. A usability review of something that already exists is a small piece of work; research, interaction design and a component library for a complex application is a much larger one. What moves the figure most is how much user research is needed, how many user roles and edge-case states the product has, and whether there is already a brand and design language to work from. We put the scope and the cost in writing before starting, so you are not committing to an open-ended hourly arrangement.

Typically a Figma file you own, with screens and flows organised so they can be navigated rather than hunted through; clickable prototypes for the flows that need testing or sign-off; and the specifications a developer needs — spacing, states, tokens, interaction behaviour — rather than a set of flat images. Where research is part of the work, you also get what came out of it: the findings, the decisions taken from them, and the ones deliberately parked. Exactly what is included is set in the scope, because a usability review and a full product design produce very different things.

UX is how the product works; UI is how it looks and feels while you use it. UX covers research, information architecture, user flows and the logic of completing a task. UI covers layout, typography, colour, interface states and the visual system that carries your brand. Splitting them cleanly is mostly a hiring convenience — a polished interface sitting on a confused flow still frustrates people. New product work usually needs both, though an existing product with a sound structure may only need the interface layer revisited.

Either. We often build what we design, and when the people designing and the people building are working together, the questions that come up mid-build get answered without a formal handover. If you have your own development team, we design to their stack and supply component specifications, design tokens and assets they can implement directly, then stay available through the build to answer questions and review what ships against what was designed.

We design against the WCAG criteria as we go rather than patching at the end, because contrast, focus order, target sizes and keyboard paths are far cheaper to get right in a design file than in shipped code. In practice that means palettes checked for contrast, states drawn for keyboard and screen reader users, and components documented with their accessible behaviour and not only their appearance. AA is the level most public-facing products are measured against, and the European Accessibility Act has made it a compliance question for products sold into the EU. Whether the finished product conforms depends on the build as much as the design, so if it is a legal requirement for you, say so early and we will treat it as one — including auditing what you already have before any redesign starts.

A design system starts to pay off once more than one person will design or build in the product over time. If you are validating a single idea, a small set of consistent components and a few clear rules is usually enough, and full documentation would only slow you down. With several teams, more than one platform or a long roadmap, a system removes decisions that would otherwise be re-made every week and keeps the product coherent as it grows. We build them as component libraries in Figma with tokens that map to the codebase, so the design source and the running product do not drift apart.
